Integrated Mechanical System

An integrated mechanical system (combining space heating, water heating and ventilation) was installed in early 2009 in the CCHT twin house facility. The primary objective of this project was to compare the overall thermal and electrical energy consumption of the integrated mechanical system to a modern high efficiency natural gas furnace, power vented water heater, and heat recovery ventilator (HRV). The CCHT with twin houses, identical operating conditions, and controlled artificial occupancy was the perfect laboratory for an impartial, comparative assessment of the ‘as-installed’ energy performance of the integrated system against equivalent but distributed equipment.
