IEA Annex 42 detailed load profiles

Detailed Canadian internal non-Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (non-HVAC) load profiles were developed by the National Research Council of Canada Institute for Research in Construction with assistance from Natural Resources Canada for the International Energy Agency's (IEA) Annex 42, The Simulation of Building-Integrated Fuel Cell and Other Cogeneration Systems.

Sample Generated Profile for a single day

A project was undertaken to simulate the random actions of a household on a 5-minute basis, in order to produce an annual set of 5-minute occupant-driven electrical consumption data. These data sets can then be used in the design and simulation of MicroCHP systems in residential applications. The concept arose during a survey of available household electrical data for Canada. It was discovered that very few detailed load profiles existed, and of these, most provided only hourly data or averaged data from a group of houses. In many cases, recorded electrical data from houses included HVAC loads, making it difficult to separate occupant driven loads from the total electrical consumption. Instead of selecting a single representative profile from the few available, the IEA Annex task group took the approach of generating a set of sample profiles from available inputs. A year's worth of 5-minute occupancy load data was generated based on a detailed appliance set, annual consumption targets, and probability of occupancy time of use.
