Effect of Indoor/Outdoor Blind Placement

Following the Photocell-Activated Blind Control experiment , a separate set of blind experiments was conducted in 2002. The purpose of this set of experiments was to determine summer energy savings from exterior and interior blind configurations.

Preliminary results show an increase in summer energy savings from the use of outdoor blinds. These blinds reduce household energy gains from solar radiation, thus reducing the cooling load on air conditioning systems.
