The Canadian Centre for Housing Technology (CCHT)
Located on a six-acre site at the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) in Ottawa, the Centre currently features two fully monitored houses and the CCHT InfoCentre, a demonstration and showcase building. The site features four additional serviced lots where industry partners can develop and build new concepts to explore specific test and research challenges.
This world-class "house as a system" facility closes the gap between laboratory testing and field tests conducted in occupied houses. The core focus is currently on energy efficiency, particularly energy conversion systems. Using the twin "reference" and "test" houses, CCHT experts conduct rigorous side-by-side comparisons of new technologies with conventional systems. Estimates suggest that technological advances could reduce household energy consumption by 50% or more.
